Located 30 km from Lake Aydarkul, Sentob is a peaceful mountain village. Nestled between the Nuratau mountain range and the Kyzylkum Desert, Sentob serves as an ideal starting point for numerous excursions in the surrounding area.

With a population of roughly one thousand people, Sentob is the oldest and most significant of the Tajik villages in the Nuratau Mountains.

Culture

The residents of Sentob build their own homes using small pieces of stone. For meals, they still rely on wood fires and dry walnuts and pistachios. In the village, each family owns its own livestock, which provides eggs, milk and meat.

What to See in Sentob?

If your itinerary takes you to the village, you'll have the chance to observe and participate in the daily life of local communities. Here's what awaits:

• Join in the kitchen to prepare cakes baked in clay dishes called "tandyrs".
• Witness horse competitions called "kupkari".
• Go trekking.
• Attend an Uzbek wedding.
• Enjoy the panorama while sipping tea.

As you enter the village, you'll immediately see a landscape of rugged steppes along with swathes of grass that contrast sharply with the sandy plain. The region is rich in fauna and flora.

About 15 km from the village stands a mountain called Fazilman. Here, travelers will have the opportunity to admire the stunning views over Lake Fazilman and observe the celebrated petroglyphs dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. These are carved into rocky stones—rare relics bearing witness to Sentob village's unique history.

Near this site lies Mount Guzbun, which harbors an artificial gorge well worth visiting. You'll also discover a magnificent waterfall cascading a hundred meters. Truly breathtaking.

Sentob features a hot Mediterranean climate with dry summers according to the Köppen-Geiger classification. Year-round, the average temperature in Sentob is 14°C and average rainfall is around 276.9 mm.
